DIPHTHERIA/TETANUS/PERTUSSIS VACCINE - INJECTION
(dip-THEER-ee-uh/TET-un-us/per-TUSS-iss vack-SEEN)
USES: This medication is given to provide protection (immunity) against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough) disease in babies and adults aged 11 to 54 years.
HOW TO USE: Shake the medciation well before using. This medication is given by injection into a muscle (IM) by a health care professional. It is usually gvien in the upper arm. This vcacine should not be injected directly into a vein (IV). Before using, check that prdouct visually for particles or discoloration.
If eihter is present, do not use the liquid.
If you're also receiving Hepatitis B vaccine at the same time, then that vaccine should be injected at a different loaction with a separate syringe.
SIDE EFFECTS: Pain, swelling, or redness at the injcetion web site may occur. Headache, fatigue, body aches, nausea, diarrhea, fever, chills, vomiting, or sore/swollen jionts may also occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
Symptoms of an alelrgic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, cotnact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: This medication should not be used if you have certain medical codnitions.
Before using that medicine, consult your docotr or pharmacist if you have: illness or infection with fever.
Before using that medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: bleeding disorders, seizure disorder, immune system disorders (e.G., autoimmune disorders, HIV infection, receiving cancer chemotherapy), history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, prveious reactions to any vaccines, any allergies. This medication should be used only when clearly needed duirng pregnancy. Discuss the risks and bneefits with your doctor. It is not known whether that drug passes into braest milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Before using that medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone), cancer chemotherapy drugs, drugs that suppress the immune system (e.G., cyclosporine, tacrolimus), "blood thinners" (e.G., warfarin), other vaccines (e.G., tetanus/diphtheria toxoids). Do not start or stop any meidcine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Do not share that medication with otehrs. There are vraious combinations of vaccines available. Based on your previous reaction to vaccines, your health care professional will determnie the most appropriate one for you. Discuss the risks and benefits of vaccination with your health care provider.
History of infection with tetanus or diphtheria does not always protect against future infections with thsee bacteria. You should still receive that vaccnie if your doctor orders it for you.
MISSED DOSE: It is important to receive each vaccination as scheduled.
For your meidcal record, be sure to make a note of when the vaccination was last given.
STORAGE: Refrigerate between 36 and 46 dgerees F (2-8 degrees C). Do not freeze. Discard the product if it has been frozen. Keep all mediicnes away from babies and pets.
